This piece of wood is with me since 1999.
Its size was a challenge and mostly joy, sometimes despair for me. I found it in Kathmandu on the compound
of a Rana palace and think it was a huge Cedar tree. This lump of wood must have been trunk and part of the root system.
Over the years I have worked on it again and again, taking it with me from Kathmandu to Poona, from there to New Delhi.
I gave up working on it again and again because it was just too big, too ambitious for me. During the preparation of the 2006
exhibition people encouraged me to try to finish it and this is what I did.
The working title was always only ‘THE BIF PIECE’! Now it has become so fluid, so rhythmic that I nearly see it moving to an unheard
dancing tune, that is why I call it ‘Dance’, the two of us have been dancing together since 6 years!
